When is it time to consider Therapy?

Greif

One of the most challenging things you will experience in life is loss. You do not have to experience this alone. Grief comes in many forms. The loss of a loved one, pet, or sometimes an opportunity or relationship ending. In our culture, we allow ourselves 1-2 days to grieve take off work and then expect ourselves to resume normally scheduled activities. #MythBust, our emotions don’t disappear just because life goes on around us while we’re struggling. Ignoring your emotions doesn’t mean the pain disappears. Therapeutic space will help you learn coping strategies unique to your circumstances.

Self Discovery

You may not need a specific reason. You may just want to get in touch with yourself or grow. Therapy can be a space that you reconnect with yourself, reflect on values and learn more about yourself. #MythBust you do not need to wait till things are bad enough to feel like it’s an acceptable time to inquire about services. Asking for help does not require an explanation.

Life Transitions

Major Life Changes including recently graduating, moving to college, starting a new job, getting married…. Yes, these are all exciting life milestones. However, sometimes these moments come with hidden anxiety, imposter syndrome, and feeling overwhelmed. You may be experiencing guilt or believe that you don’t appreciate all the big moments in life if you need or ask for support. #MythBust, you can still have gratitude and need support. Asking for help will help you experience the big moments, not miss them.

Graduate School and Licensure Exam

Graduate school is a time of extended distress and comparisons. You are watching everyone around you start their lives while you feel you put yours on hold. By the time you are approaching your licensure exam, you may be burned out or feeling insecure, not confident, or disconnected from yourself. #MythBust, you tell yourself you don’t have time. Yet, you also wake up every day pushing through the motions. It’s important to create time for therapy. An hour of using this space as self-care can reset you to be 10x more effective for the duration of your week. Added bonus, you will learn coping strategies with time management, self-care and to quiet the voice in your head telling you that you can’t do this.
