Why People prefer Online Counseling

  1. Convenience & Creative Scheduling

You don’t have to worry about a long commute or finding a specialist in your area. You get to work with who you want & quality care is not compromised by distance. You aren’t sacrificing time that you could be spending with your family or partner. You may have time to catch up on laundry or get a quick workout in. Resilient Wellness also offers online scheduling for virtual clients to help simplify the process of making appointments.

2. Confidentiality & Comfort

Clients do not have to worry about running into someone they might know in the waiting room. It removes the obstacle of the fear that someone may find out they are in therapy if this is a concern. You are in your own space, you do not have to worry about feeling uncomfortable in a different space. A common barrier is a fear of the unknown. We don’t know what to expect so we avoid making that appointment. Online counseling has become the solution to removing stigma in multicultural environments as well.

3. Consistently & Flexibility of Care

COVID-19 pandemic, moving, travel for work, crazy schedules. All these obstacles are removed. Therapists working in online counseling are more likely to have flexible scheduling opportunities as the barriers/safety concern of leaving office in the evening are eliminated, they do not have to coordinate hours with other staff members for office security purposes. Some providers will offer additional flexibility during the holidays as they are usually working from a home office.

4. Evidence-Based Approach

It works! VA was using telehealth counseling services for 10 years before it became as popular as it is today. Research has demonstrated online counseling is equally as effective as in-person treatment. Many providers including myself have also completed extensive training and passed the certification exam to become board certified in telemental health counseling. As a requirement of this certification, we participate in yearly continuing education training to ensure are providing appropriate treatment of care to clients. Be sure to ask your potential provider if they are board-certified if you are interested in participating in online counseling.
