Ever wonder why we Procrastinate?

  • Avoidance

  • Fear of Failure

  • Because your mom told you to do it

  • Disinterested or just really boring task

  • You don’t know how or where to begin

  • Over dramatizing the task (we make it into a way bigger deal than necessary)

Tips & Tricks

  1. Create a Task List

    1. Make a list of Urgent & Nonurgent tasks to assist in time management.

    2. Start the task list, when you sit down & are still trying to get motivated to start whatever you're procrastinating on

Specific tasks that are considered “nonurgent” are long-term deadlines, texting, scrolling through social media… any potential disruptions. Identify them here. They are off-limits once you have completed compiling your two lists. The urgent task list is things related to your current deadlines (homework assignments, work tasks, laundry…ect). Then start with a shorter task from the urgent list to get the momentum going.

  2. Forest App

Forest App Link - Click here

I recommend this app frequently to my adolescent and young adult clients in college. My young professional clients have even gotten a laugh out of it & continue to use this resource to help them meet work deadlines or stay focused in zoom meetings. Everyone describes it as a “game-changer”. This app is compatible with all Apple products, google chrome & various social media platforms including Facebook.

The app motivates you to stay on task by planting a tree when you start a task. You can set different time limitations in settings regarding how long you need. As you work, the tree grows. If you leave the app while the plant is growing, your tree will wither & die. I know a lot of pressure riding on you to be focused. Bonus: The Forest team also plants tree’s all over the world so this is an opportunity to multi-task with some philanthropy.

  3. Ted Talk

Is there anything more motivating than a Good Ted Talk? You can google a Ted Talk on almost anything to motivate you. Not only will Tim have you laughing nonstop but, you will start your task immediately after this video!
