Resilient Wellness: The Founding Story
Resilient Wellness was inspired by you
A private practice inspired and founded for anyone & everyone who has ever felt therapy was or wasn’t for them.
You wonder if your struggles are “bad enough” to try therapy. Maybe after you feel a wave of guilt and shame, you then tell yourself other people have it worse. Every day you continue to feel empty, despair sometimes even, stressed or angry. You have stopped enjoying life and find yourself less patient with your friends and family. Maybe you have considered therapy in the past and then talked yourself out of it and continue to push through the motions, rather than live a happy resilient life.
Yiannoula, the founder of Resilient Wellness created her private practice with you as inspiration. Inspired by a combination of your stories, her personal and clinical field experiences. Resilient Wellness is on a mission to normalize and open the conversation about Mental Health. Empowering current and future therapists through advocacy, mentorship, and supervision services. Resilient Wellness offers individual therapy services for adolescents, young adults, and young professionals utilizing an evidence-based treatment approach and community support through various speaking engagements and seminars.
It’s time we create a culture that encourages therapy, not one that ignores the signs of asking for help.
My Story
If I’m being honest, I cringe reflecting on the memory of my graduate school experiences that got me here. I completed a 3 year Master's program in 2 years, held a 20-hour graduate assistantship, and participated in 2 clinical practicum and clinical internships at 3 different sites for a full calendar year. When I wasn’t fulfilling those commitments and responsibilities I was in class. Did I mention I got engaged and began wedding planning?
I spent 80 hours a week in clinical work training to become a therapist. I had become burned out before my career had even begun. What is worse, I had begun to see the signs in myself that I was trained to diagnose and treat in clients. Unfortunately, services were not as accessible in a schedule like mine, and pre-pandemic times virtual therapy wasn’t available. There weren’t any practices that offered the scheduling availability to support my unique circumstances. I needed a place like Resilient Wellness. Now, I’m proud to say that I have founded a private practice to have that space for other young professionals or students in similar situations. The future you are building, should not be at the cost of your emotional well-being or Mental Health.
Your Story
After 2 years of graduate school, I watched people in my life struggle and some did not go to therapy. I watched close friends and family lose themselves to school, jobs, licensure exams, and crumble. Some of those people acknowledged the obstacles as why they did not go to therapy. They identified the obstacles as they couldn’t find a place or person they connected with, others struggled with denial that they needed help. You want a provider who understands that you never saw yourself considering therapy but, you need support right now. We understand that at Resilient Wellness.
Clinical Inspiration
4 years of my clinical field experiences contributed to RW being founded. 4 years of watching people wait until they were at their breaking point to get help. Sometimes, it was past that. Prior to founding Resilient Wellness, I worked as a therapist and Adolescent IOP coordinator at a private practice specializing in a higher level of care. IOP or Intensive Patient Therapy is a higher level of care that consists of 9 hours of treatment weekly minimum. Clients are recommended this level of care for 2 reasons: when their symptoms of anxiety or depression reach a severity that is disrupting their ability to function on a daily basis or they have been discharged from in-patient hospitalization for active self-harm, suicidal thoughts, or an incomplete suicide attempt.
Every day, I woke up and thought to myself I wish people would not wait until they made it that close to their breaking point to ask for help or get support. I wondered how things could have been different for them, had they sought out help earlier.
And then came the Resilient Wellness
At Resilient Wellness you receive an evidence-based treatment approach but, you do not feel like your walking into a space that resembles a medical office with that tacky fish tank. You don’t have to wait for your breaking point or wonder am I struggling enough to go to therapy? Chances are if you’re considering therapy you’ve had quite a few bad days and maybe breakdowns that the days are now weeks. If you need a signal from the universe or sign. This is it: Stop waiting. Scheduling an appointment is enough for me to listen with unconditional positive regard and support.
